Enzo Maresca provides fitness updates on Cole Palmer, Reece James, Malo Gusto, and Romeo Lavia ahead of Bournemouth Clash.

Because of fitness concerns, Cole Palmer withdrew from the England Squad for their National League clash with Ireland and Finland.

According to reports from Chelsea training grounds, Cole Palmer has resumed full training and is expected to start against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto was injured during international duty with French U21. On the French international’s fitness ahead of the Bournemouth Clash, Enzo Maresca said at a press conference: “Malo is still out; he is not available for tomorrow’s game.”

Chelsea midfielder  Romeo Lavia has made only three appearances since joining the club in 2023. He spent almost the entire last season nursing an injury and recovered at the end of the season.

Levia was part of Chelsea’s preseason squad for their US tour and featured in their Premier League opening fixture against Manchester City, but he suffered another hamstring injury and missed Chelsea games against Wolves and Crystal Palace.

The Belgian international stepped up his recovery during the international break. However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has ruled him out of the game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

On the fitness of Romeo Lavia and Reece James, the Italian said: “Romeo Lavia is very close, hopefully he is back for the next game.

“Unfortunately, Reece James needs more time.”

England international Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea from Manchester United and is expected to debut against Bournemouth.

However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has indicated that it is only prudent that he finds the right moment for Jadon Sancho to make his much-awaited Chelsea debut.

Maresca revealed: “I decide the first XI, it depends on the training session.

“Jadon is one of our wingers. I am seeing him exactly the way I was expecting him.

“Now it’s a matter to find the right moment for him, to give him a chance.”

The Chelsea manager also stressed that for them to compete with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal for the Premier League title, they need to find the right balance between the technical and physical aspects.

The Italian continued: “Today, if you want to compete, you need to find the right balance between the technical side and the physical side.

“City, Arsenal and Liverpool have those players that are physically strong but we have that too.”
